i think microwave ovens can be considered as one of the best inventions ever, other than velcro, zips and ziplogs. it allows you to reheat your rice and soup and dishes in a mere 30 seconds that they feel like fresh off the stove.
and national day feels like round the corner. now its barely past june 9 and we are preparing to celebrate aug 9. oh, it doesn't surprise me that singapore actually punishes people who overcelebrate - just ask those who have been fined when they forgot to keep their national flags, so in essence we are fining people who are over-exuberant in showing their patriotism.
it does not help that national day songs are written to make it feel as if everyone is well and happy in singapore. what it does NOT mention is the 7% GST with effect from July 1st. it fails to mention the increased cable tv fees provided by the starhub monopoly. also, nets' transaction fees have been tripled or quintupled. although it is said that shops are not supposed to pass on these increased costs to customers, it does not exactly take a genius to predict that shops will hike prices with other reasons as a cover anyway.
i found this interesting article today:
Why are Singaporeans leaving?no wonder.
we pay our ministers $1+ mil per annum and we can't think of better ways to reduce inequality? a ceo with that kind of performance would have had his a** kicked by the shareholders. for singapore inc which holds an agm once every 5 years which not every shareholder can vote in. how to remove the directors and managers that are underperforming?
i would really like to know how to do so without incurring a lawsuit. not like there is a lack of activist shareholders in singapore inc, but if being one means getting slapped with a lawsuit by the chairman, i think i rather not invest in such a company.
