how do you fight an idea? i came across this interesting question while watching star trek. quoting the show, "It is no weapons to avoid, no body to fight." how insightful. the episode was produced before 1990 and yet it so accurately reflected the world today. ideas, not resources nor guns, are turning people against one another. how to fight deviant ideas? the only likely solution would be to counter it with another idea.
anyway, today went for the green audit award ceremony. i misread the direction guide and took the wrong bus which went to the opposite end of woodlands. it was not very amusing especially when i was running late. in the end, took a taxi to republic poly. cost me 4 extra dollars but the hassle saved was worth it. the award ceremony was boring to say the least. i noted a strange phenomenon though. the lower the award, the higher is the proportion of students, rather than teachers, collecting the award. didn't linger there for too long though. went straight home after the ceremony and skipping the reception in the process.
when i got home, i found out that my computer's power supply got fried with a rather distinguishable smell. couldn't start it up. when my father returned, we both started to find another power supply unit for my comp but those we had were 300 W units, not enough to feed the 400 W my comp needs. in the end, i cannabilised another comp's 450W power supply since it was rarely used. i will probably replace that comp's power supply another day. in the meantime, i am just happy to get my comp up and running again.
bah, just confirmed that i didn't get into icho team. a part of me felt disappointed (i am not human if i say i do not feel that way) but the other part of me just felt surreal and relieved. somehow after the icho selection test and common tests, i saw this realignment of priorities. gone was the study-advanced-but-useless-for-a-levels-chemistry-at-all-costs attitude. now, with h3 chem nearing its finale in less than a fortnight and my common test 1 grades, i just felt that there was probably no need to know more than what is necessary for h2 chem. besides, i still have other subjects to buck up on like maths and econs. the wake up call from ct1 have perhaps precipitated this realignment of priorities. perhaps, this is ultimately the best outcome for me when considering the long term for i am not persuing chem in uni anyway.
just wishing good luck to those guys going to shanghai, moscow and iran.
bah friday the 13th. i am a non-christian so i have no particular emotion towards friday the 13th. it is just another day to me.
