blog
After 4 wks, FLP finally ended.
Suddenly, my holidays lost a sense of purpose, direction. I could now wake up late and start to worry about finding stuffs to occupy my time.
The daily trips to and fro my house to tanjong pagar to 38th floor of capital tower have now ceased.
Perhaps, the worst thing is that people you have been seeing for everyday for 4 weeks will no longer feature in your life (or most likely not), except for that occasional meeting on the street.
For the first time, I did a presentation impromptu. And also for the first time, people found my presentation funny (which will never happen in ri/rj).
Maybe it was just because everyone there was just special and unique in their own ways with their special characters having an influence on the general outcome of this programme. Somehow, the influences of each other blended well together.
I have never met a more fun-loving bunch other than the vj people. They can absolutely turn a solemn atmosphere into something funny. Darren with his laughter and occasional hyperactiveness, Xinji with his quirky comments that never fail to provoke laughter as well as his talent for drawing (he can draw good comics!), Matthew with his ability to make funny comments while keeping a straight face and his inclination to come early in the morning to pack the vj table, Timothy who is one of the most investing-aware person that I ever met as well as his uncanny ability to predict the big picture correctly, Marianne and her 'bimbolitis' who also never fails to elicit comments from her other schoolmates and Eugene who always seems to provoke Xinji into laughing, thereby provoking others into laughter as well.
As for the hwachong people, there are only 3 that i remember vividly. calvin the 'mamasan' and the one who makes everyone rush for the food only when he goes for break and his significant presence (in terms of the volume of his voice), ervin the best manipulator i have ever seen (in 3 successive board games he strategised his way to the top) as well as making the whole room go "Buffalo buffalo buffalo" when he showed us a wiki-page as well as huimin who surprised everybody during a debate.
Last but not least, the rj people. Zhu feng the one who tell jokes in a straight face and only one who can understand my tech humour, yikai who makes up a funny combi with calvin (he started the mamasan tag for calvin), milord and his ability to generate laughter (especially when he put a 'LOL' in a game card), emily and her will to do work (i have only seen a handful who can do work with more will than her) and natalie with her 20-mentos-in-half-and-hour and her subsequent abstinence from mentos.
And lastly, the vj j2 guys who were there for a different project but still nevertheless was nice to us (gave us their mini-freezer to use as well as buy chips for us while we were piahing a project one afternoon). Their drawings on the glass wall were funny (imagine a playboy bunny with a gic logo on it).
Maybe 1 year down the road, the greatest takeaway from this course will not be the financial knowledge/skills that I have learnt in this course, nor is it the satisfaction of being able to evaluate and improve the programme. Rather, my greatest takeaway would be the memories, fun, joy and laughter that I experienced in this programme. It would be the memories of how 19 of us were kept together in a moderately-sized room from 9 to 5 everyday for 4 weeks and the memories that we had shared thus far.
Most of us will probably never meet again, but I must say, thanks for the memories. It was REALLY fun and enjoyable while it lasted.
Let me end with a photo that features only 14 of us cos it was rather late by that time.
