Just in case

Just in case some people are wondering why I write so differently on the blog compared to real life, my answer is that in my blog I seek to explore life from the selfish, ugly angle of human nature. That does not mean that I do really use that perspective all the time in life.

Some people are really touchy about that fact that I write in this way. It must be said that attempting to unmask the true human nature will always be met with opposition from people who want to keep the world happy and blissful.

Anyway, was discussing with CQ during Econs today. Does relationships exhibit the marginalist principle and people act according to the Law Of Diminishing Marginal Returns? Since the first love is always the sweetest, it's marginal satisfaction is thus the highest and subsequent relationships, no matter how blissful, will never feel as sweet as the previous one. Then CQ asked, "What happens when marginal gain is lower than marginal cost?" I replied, "Marriage occurs." CQ was perplexed. I explained that when people feel that they are ready to settle down, when age is catching up and when the possibility of finding a partner equal to the current one is low, they will go for marriage. It certainly was interesting food for thought during the boring Econs lecture.
