blog
Yesterday, we had war games in 3 parts. First was something about colouring posters while being tied in a guy-girl pair around the ankle with a balloon. Balloon burst = go back get another balloon. Quite fun, but the gym environment ensured a lot of sweat. Then, it is something called caterpillar. We were tied loosely together as an OG with alternate ppl blindfolded. The blind are supposed to have flags on them and it is every1's job to grab flags from other OGs. Somehow, the 'blind' managed to 'see' everything thru their blindfolds. What was shocking, however, was the aggressiveness of some people, esp the girls. Unlike most guys who will stop if the attempt is obviously not going to become successful, the girls will just continue until their target is reached (in this case, getting the flag) or that obstacles became far too big for them to surmount (in this case, the intervention of the OGLs). The 3rd one is the ultimate one. We had to go barefoot on the field which has been muddifed by water poured by OGLs. We are supposed to be tied like in the first part and try to go into other areas to lob paper balls into other houses' boxes. Did not manage to get 1 in, although the nearest was hitting one of the people guarding the box on the head. In 1 of the attempts to protect the balloon, a piece of mud was flung into my mouth. It was disgusting, but then the mud reminded of the stuffs that dentists use to fill up holes in your teeth.
After that, we had our free time. Stayed in sch and ordered pizzas while we prepared for O Nite and Zhao Han entertained the girls thoroughly with his leet violin skills. Some of the girls also went to decorate the 3 t-shirts we bought for our OGLs.
Then, it was O Nite. Was kind of okay with the conclusion of the storyline (finally!). Then, it was the OGs' turns to present their items. However, due to the lack of time, ours had to be postponed. Kind of disappointed, but no choice.
After O Nite, we 'treated' our OGLs to pizzas left over from lunch. However, we poured a packet of chilli on each slice of pizza. They had to eat the pizza before getting the T-shirts. Felt really guilty over the idea, but they gamely took it, which is really sporting of them. They tried to 'retaliate' by pouring water on us, but the fun was there. Then, we presented them the T-shirts (with our names and the words "World's Best OGL" written on them). They in turned gave us some nice name labels made up of toothpicks with a personalised card. Lastly, we went to sit in a circle to do a reflect session, but then was chased away by a teacher (looks like 1 to me). In the end, went to Long House to have supper/belated dinner. We joked and talked a lot and waited for our OGLs to arrive from their debriefing/clean up. In the end, I went home at around 11.45. Reached home at 12 and slept at around 1.
That was the end of the orientation for J1. Or is it? I remembered faintly from sec 1 orientation that it is just the 'End of the start'. Is this the end of the start? I do not know. This 'start' will only continue with the concerted effort of each and everyone in the OG. Somehow, the decision to orientate us with an OG, not the usual class placing, is already somewhat indicative that we should go out and know other people, not only those from your class. After all, there's lots of time for you to know your classmates as they will be with you for 2 years.
