Another post after another week...
Last Friday was Tech Symposium. Ah Huat finally turned up. Meanwhile, was piahing the night before subbing and editing the interview videos. There were 5 grps, 2 frm RGS, 1 frm HCI, 1 frm ACS and us. They all had mentors while we had... Ah Huat? Nvm. I tot the 2 RGS grps' products were quite good and functional. What let them down was their presentation. Then, the HCI grp looked the strongest with good presentation and great products. The ACS grp was sad lar. Their handphone movie (muvee) just could not have sound as their Linkin Park music was copyrighted.
Then it was our grp's turn. We had a simple product but great presentation. Our 2 videos just awed the audience and judges. Everything was going too well until this old guy stood up and asked this stupid question, "Why are you storing demerit points, which can be computed from the database, in the database?" and goes on to explain abt some crap in database management principles of not doing such a thing. We explained to him that demerit points are not entirely linked to the number of offences and then every semester demerit points are cleared while offences are not. We went on to assure him that scripts that do the updating has been thoroughly checked thru and it has been used extensively and almost all bugs have surfaced. Then, that guy said we were not answering his question. We were like, wtf? In the end, we found out that he was the father of one of the guy in the HCI grp and that he did his masters on database systems. That made us just felt more bitter. He was out there just to jack us. However, we were also at fault as we simply anticipated questions for all other areas except our database. In the end, we got 2nd. For the most popular project award, in spite of asking friends like Chun and families to vote for us, HCI just beat us in that area of rallying and grabbed that award and completed their double. Was feeling down after that, but then Nat commented that we did not start our Exlab wanting to win Tech Symposium, we changed our project as late as April and we also NEVER worked on our Exlab project inside the Exlab as we were too busy playing. I thought abt it and it cheered me up considerably.
The stomach flu refused to go away until I consulted this Chinese physician, who prescribed some exotic herbs and the resulting concoction, which was significantly bitter, relieved the symptoms very much.
Had grad dinner on Monday night and the food was not particularly nice, although that probably because I ate something beforehand. The programme was okay lar, but the best part when KLeong got nominated 5 times for the Mr Universe award, which every1 LOLed.
Just watched Harry Potter. In my opinion, even though I tried to throw away the expectations of the book plot, the whole movie still looked quite disjointed in certain parts. The plot was too draggy at some points while some other points was simply too rushed. Dumbledore's character was not shown. He was shown losing his cool, which is something Dumbledore would most likely not do in the book. Voldermort was simply too flamboyant for my liking and that evil did not come through to me. Watched the trailer for Chicken Little and Narnia. That means that I ahve to save up for another 3 more movies, Chicken Little, Narnia and King Kong. That's a lotta money, but at least I think all the other 3 should be a wee bit better than Harry Potter, at least plot wise.
