One thing interesting taking the North East Line is that there are a lot of nice-looking girls that take the train at the same time =) However, other than just noticing them, my mind will usually be in overdrive trying to calculate something that I learnt in school, probability.
I usually take the NEL at Potong Pasir and alight at Sengkang. From Potong Pasir to Sengkang, there are 5 stations, thus any girl has a 1/5 chance of alighting at the same station as me. Then, since there are 4 different ways to go at Sengkang station, a girl has 1/5 x 1/4 chance of taking the LRT (1/20 then). Then, there are 2 different lines of LRT, the chance that she will take the same line is 1/2 x 1/20 (1/40). Then, for my line, there are 5 stations, thus the probability of her alighting at the same LRT station is 1/5 x 1/40 (1/200). Finally, for each LRT station, there are 2 exits, thus the probabilty that a girl I see on the MRT that exits at the same exit of the same LRT station as me is 1/400.
Who says that Maths cannot be applied in real life? Just stop listening to that MP3 player of yours and you will find a lot of chances to use your brains.
